HAPPY EARTH DAY

April 23, 2012 00:17 by csiAdmin
Tips to Help make your Home Green:
1.     Exchange your incandescent bulbs
with Compact FluorescentLight Bulbs (CFLS).
They use 66% less energy than a standard incandescent bulb and last 1
times longer.  Order your CFL’s on Duke
Energy’s website.    http://www.duke-energy.com/north-carolina.asp
2.      Want hardwood floors? Opt for bamboo.
Bamboo is considered an environmentally friendly flooring material due to its high yield
and the relatively fast rate at which it replenishes itself. It takes just four to six
years for bamboo to mature, compared to 50-100 years for typical hardwoods.
Just be sure to look for sources that use formaldehyde-free glues.
3.      Program Your Thermostats
Save10% on your heating and cooling costs just by setting your thermostat back when
you're not home and while you're sleeping.
4.      Buy ENERGY STAR
When replacing your appliances, select ENERGY
STAR qualified products. When replacing your water heater, furnace,
or air conditioner, you should also select ENERGY STAR qualified products. You
will save 10-30% on the operating costs vs. non-ENERGY STAR
equivalents.
